Sign With Me

Series

Holy mackerel, who would have thought of teaching hearing children who have hearing parents to sign?  Well, some very intelligent people did some very precise research, and they did what all great scientists do:  they stumbled on it.

Sometimes, deaf adults have hearing children.  No breaking news there.  The parents, then, teach the children to sign so the family can communicate.  Again, obvious.  Then, an amazing thing happened.  Those hearing children learned the spoken & written language so quickly.  They had incredible vocabularies compared with other hearing children their age.  Many could read significantly early.  Wow.  If you could use a single tool that would unlock language for your kids in so many ways, wouldn't you?  Teach them to sign!

The incredible opportunities that signing offers to hearing children are well documented with research.

Here, finally, is a wonderful series of children's books that will open the world of signs to the hearing community.

My friend Andrea signs.  She is a hearing woman with hearing parents and hearing children.  She grew up and became a sign language interpreter.  In her studies, she learned all about introducing hearing children to sign language.  Lucky for me, she passed it on.

My little son knows several signs.  Just like with spoken words, he understands more than he can create.  I soon discovered that I didn't know enough signs to keep up with him!

Here, then, is a series of children's books that includes beautiful pictures, words, AND SIGNS.  Now, I can learn the sign right there on the same page, and help him to learn it, too.  No more running to my Joy of Signing book a million times in one play period.  [Off the record, that's a great book & I definitely recommend getting your own copy.]

So, here are our first samples and a list of upcoming titles.
