The most popular blinds in
Central Florida today are 2” Faux Wood Horizontal
Blinds. They are stylish and functional, blocking
direct sunlight and heat, thus protecting your furniture
and carpeting from over-exposure and fading. These
blinds, along with most 2” horizontal blinds, do not
close tight and are not considered room-darkening. Vista
Niteguard and Comfortex Woodwind Privacy Plus blinds are
“route-less” and provide a much tighter closure than
conventional 2” blinds.
Faux Wood is popular because of its low cost and high
durability compared to natural wood blinds. The faux
product, originally only available in shades of white,
is now available in many faux stains that give the true
appearance of natural wood. Comfortex Woodwinds are
available in an “S” curve slat that provide an
additional modern look. Faux blinds will not warp, fade,
chip or crack.
Vertical blinds are still popular as they provide the
highest value per square foot in window blinds today.
Verticals work well on windows and are the best value
for covering sliding glass door openings. There is a
wide selection of styles, textures and colors available,
and these can liven up any room. You may also add an ADO
Wrap, which is a sheer covering to go over your vertical
blind. These sheers give the look of a sheer drapery
while maintaining the function and privacy of a vertical
blind. The best part of the ADO Wrap is it can be
removed with ease and laundered, right in your own
washing machine.
Consumers looking for a smarter modern look for sliding
glass doors are moving away from vertical blinds into
panel tracks. These use between two and five large
pieces of fabric suspended on a track. The shades are
functional and available in many decorative fabrics.
Coordinating roller shades and woven wood shades are
available to match the panel tracks on windows.
Many other products are available for your window
covering needs. Shutters are available in vinyl, wood
and wood composite materials and in many different
styles. Pleated and Honeycomb shades are popular for
privacy and are available in light-filtering and
room-darkening fabrics. These are a great option for
covering French doors, as they will not bang around when
you open the door. For bathroom privacy, you can choose
a “top-down” feature to open the shade from the top,
leaving the bottom closed.
